Call for Participation

The EUROCRYPT conferences are a series of annual meetings whose purpose is to promote high-quality research in cryptology. Anyone interested in the latest developments in cryptology and its applications to information security should attend EUROCRYPT '98 which is organized by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR) in co-operation with Helsinki University of Technology (HUT).

LOCATION

The conference will take place at the campus of Helsinki University of Technology . The university is located in Espoo, about 7 km to the west from the city center of Helsinki. The area is well-known for its architecture designed by Alvar Aalto.

CONFERENCE FEES

The participation fee is FIM 2400 for registrations paid by April 16th and FIM 2800 after that. The conference fee includes admittance to the conference sessions, the proceedings, refreshments, lunches (Mon-Wed) and the conference dinner.

Conference social program includes an excursion to Suomenlinna Island Fortress and the conference dinner. The fee for the excursion is FIM 100 for all participants. Tickets for accompanying persons to the conference dinner can also be purchased. Please reserve all tickets in advance on the Registration Form.

SPECIAL OFFER PAST PROCEEDINGS CD-ROM

In co-operation with Springer-Verlag, the IACR is delighted to offer all conference delegates the opportunity to purchase a CD- ROM containing copies of the Springer-Verlag proceedings of the past Crypto and Eurocrypt conferences. This offer is only available for those conference delegates who will collect the CD-ROM at registration. The special offer price will be repeated for delegates of Crypto '98. For those unable to attend Eurocrypt '98 or Crypto '98, the CD-ROM will be available for mail order purchase directly from Springer-Verlag from June 1998 onwards.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION

Hotel accommodation has been reserved in listed hotels in Espoo and Helsinki. The special prices are available only if reservations are made through the Conference Secretariat using the Registration Form.

To secure the hotel accommodation of your choice (especially at hotels nearby), your Registration Form and hotel deposit payment of FIM 600 should be submitted as early as possible as all hotels will be reserved on a "first come, first served" basis. Room rates are indicated in Finnish Marks (FIM) per room per night and include accommodation, private shower / bath (in hotels), breakfast, VAT and hotel service charge. Extra beds will be charged separately at the hotel.

Bus transportation for hotels marked with * will be provided by the organizers. There are also frequent public bus connections from the center of Helsinki (bus lines 102, 102T, 194 and 195).

A deposit of FIM 600 per room should be paid to the Conference Secretariat in advance. Kindly note that your hotel reservation is valid only upon receipt of the hotel deposit. The hotel deposit will be deducted from your final hotel bill. All participants will receive a confirmation letter of the room reservation after receipt of the hotel deposit. The hotel deposit is non-refundable for cancellations after April 16, 1998. All cancellations must be made in writing.

METHODS OF PAYMENT

All payments must be made in Finnish Marks (FIM) in advance by one of the following means:

The participant must pay all banking costs. A duplicate or a photocopy of the bank transfer order must be sent along with the registration form to the Conference Secretariat. The name and address of the participant must be clearly indicated as well as other details of the payment.

2. CREDIT CARD

VISA, Mastercard and Eurocard are accepted. Other credit cards are not accepted. If you wish to use a credit card, please submit your credit card number and the expiry date of the credit card on your personally signed registration form to enable the charge. Please make sure that your credit card is valid.

CONFIRMATION

After receipt of the completed registration form and remittance of the appropriate fees, delegates will receive a confirmation letter. The confirmation letter should be presented at the registration desk at the Conference Site. During the conference all conference material will be delivered on site according to participants registration number mentioned in the confirmation letter. Upon registration participants will receive full documentation for the Conference and a name badge which must be worn throughout the conference.

CANCELLATIONS

Notification of any cancellation must be made in writing to the Conference Secretariat. Payments regarding registration fees, hotel accommodation, social program or tours will only be refunded as follows:

Cancellation by April 16, 1998 Full refund deducted by a handling fee of FIM 500
Cancellation after April 16, 1998 No refunds

All refunds will be processed after the Conference.

Credit will not be given for late arrival, unused services, unattended events or early departure from the Conference. The organizer encourages registrants to take out travel insurance which will also cover costs related to possible cancellation of a Conference trip due to health or other unpredictable reasons.

TOUR PROGRAM

Tours will be organized on Monday and Wednesday and after the conference for both accompanying persons and participants. Please make your choice of tours on the Registration Form. All tours mentioned in this brochure are organized by CONGREX in co-operation with Finland Travel Bureau and are guided in English.

ONE-DAY TOURS

Helsinki City Tour

Date and time: Monday, June 1, 1998 at 10.00, approx. 2 hours
Price: FIM 180 / person

The sightseeing tour will give an introduction to the main sights of Helsinki: the neo-classical administrative center, the colorful Market Place, the Sibelius Monument, a work of art in tubular steel, the Finlandia Hall, the Temppeliaukio Church blasted out of solid rock, and many other fascinating aspects of the city.

Finnish History Tour

Date and time: Wednesday, June 3, 1998 at 10.00, approx. 6 hours
Price: FIM 680 / person

This tour proceeds towards the idyllic town of Porvoo founded in 1346, through Järvenpää, about 40 km from Helsinki. Here you will visit Ainola, home of the world famous Finnish composer Jean Sibelius and the studio home of the painter Pekka Halonen. Continuing through rural landscapes you come to Haikko Manor, once the residence of Russian Czars and now a luxurious hotel and congress center. After lunch and some time for relaxation you continue to Porvoo. Proceeding by foot to the Cathedral, the narrow cobblestone alleys, the old wooden part of the town with its little handicraft shops will be an unforgettable experience.

POST-CONFERENCE TOURS

Midnight Sun Lapland Tour

June 5-7, 1998 (3 days/2 nights), FIM 4450 / person, single supplement FIM 800

A flight to Kittilä about 150 km north of the Arctic Circle. Lappish culture and traditions, trekking in the fells, the unique natural resources and the mystical nights of Lapland are the special features of this tour. Visit a traditional reindeer farm; try fishing at a wilderness lake; take an exciting river boat ride! The first nights' dinner is typically Lappish prepared by old Saame recipies. The second day dinner at Särestöniemi, the gallery and home of painter Reidar Särestöniemi, highlights an unforgettable experience.

The tour price includes bus transportation from Congress hotels to the Helsinki-Vantaa airport, flights to and from Kittilä, accommodation in Kittilä for two nights, full-board, program and transportation by airport bus from the airport to the Finnair terminal in downtown Helsinki.

St.Petersburg Tour to Russia

June 5-7, 1998 (3 days/2 nights), FIM 3650 / person, single supplement FIM 800.

This is an unforgettable tour by train to St.Petersburg, the old capital of the Russian Empire built by Peter the Great in the 18th century. St.Petersburg is a pearl for art lovers with its museums and art galleries. It is also famous for its numerous theaters and concert halls.

The tour price includes a train ticket from Helsinki Railway Station to St.Petersburg and back, two nights hotel accommodation in St.Petersburg, full-board, a City Sightseeing tour, a visit to the Hermitage Museum and a traditional folklore evening. A visa is required for this tour. The Visa application form together with instructions will be mailed to the persons registered on the St.Petersburg tour. Those participants needing a visa also for Finland should apply for multi-entry visa to be able to return to Finland after the tour.

Please note ! The minimum number of participants for the one-day tours is 20. The minimum number of participants for the Post-Conference tours is 10. The organizer reserves the right to cancel any tour if this number of participants is not reached. All tour prices are subject to alterations due to circumstances beyond the organizer's control.

VISA AND PASSPORT

A valid passport is required. A visa is not required for citizens of most nationalities. Please contact your local travel agency if you need further information.

Official letters of invitation will be sent by the Chairman of the Conference upon request. Please note that the Organizing Committee will not take any financial obligations for participants' Conference related expenses in providing official invitation letters.

HOW TO GET TO HELSINKI

Helsinki airport has direct or indirect flight connections to all major cities of the world. A regular service of Finnair buses between the Helsinki Airport and city center is available at a cost of approximately FIM 25. Taxis between the Helsinki Airport and Espoo or Helsinki cost approximately FIM 150 (30 minutes). Group taxis cost approximately FIM 60 per person. It is also possible to reach Helsinki by ferry from Sweden, Germany and Estonia, and by train from Russia.
