IACR 2003 Elections: Candidates

Niels Ferguson

The IACR has done an excellent job in organising the conferences, but has now grown to a size that is difficult to run with volunteers. This will require some careful management by the board. With my background and experience I believe I can provide a valuable contribution to this work.

David Naccache

If elected, I'll endeavour to uphold the scientific quality of IACR conferences, and foster the emergence of new IACR-sponsored specialized workshops. I'll also strongly endeavour to improve the current IACR program chairmanship appointment process by introducing into it a measurable correlation with the candidates' past Crypto and Eurocrypt publication record.

Marc Joye
If elected, I will do my best to maintain IACR high-quality standard, promote partnerships between academia and industry, and support young researchers and new research topics to enlarge our research community.
Greg Rose

I have been on the Board of Directors for two years in my capacity as General Chair of Crypto 2003. In that time I feel that I have made a valuable contribution to the organization, not only by running a successful conference, and I hope to be elected to continue to do so.

Joe Kilian
In over 15 years of involvement as a scientist, program committee member (and chair), and one-time electronic submissions coordinator, I have caused remarkably little damage.   I want the IACR to more effectively extend its presence beyond its conferences, and promote more discussion of issues relating to our profession.

Yvo Desmedt
Having been a member and researcher since IACR's birth, a director (2001-2003, 1992-1993), I am in a good position to address IACR's issues in these difficult times. Indeed, the number of participants at its conferences is declining while the number of: researchers, papers and workshops is mushrooming.

Tom Berson
I have served IACR since 1983 as Secretary, Treasurer, President, and Director. During that time we created premier conferences, cryptologic literature, and community. Our present challenges include online services and global operations. I know where we have been and I know where we are going. Please vote for me.

Lars Knudsen

Member since 1991, Director since 2000. I support - sponsoring more of the smaller crypto workshops - cheaper conferences, thus less risk for the IACR - electronic elections (if we cannot do it, who can?). I'm happy to serve another 3 years, also happy not to.

Arjen K Lenstra

The IACR must continue its tradition of organizing cryptologic activities that meet the highest adademic standards without losing sight of practical relevance. No hidden agendas or political interests: - Accountability of elected board members. - Voting rights on scientific matters just for elected board members. - Decoupling of program chair & country choice
